Extension Manager for Open Office as of Release 3.0 is a valuable built in part of the software.
It presents a dialog box for you to add in the extensions, remove them, or jump straight to the web site to get more add ins. Try out this feature! The old version of the software was done differently and I could never easily make changes to what add ins were loaded up.
Be aware that when you download an extension, you must know where it is going to put the file so that you can tell the extension manager where to find it to do the install. Usually this is the default download directory for your particular setup. In my case the downloads go to a folder called myextensions. The download manager automatically informs me that it is about to install the extension.
It is a really slick feature and I use it often!
Where the add ins end up is related to the function of the add in, that is to say, not all ad ins are global. Sometimes I have to search around a bit to find a particular extension, and then realize that the feature will be found in the context is is usually employed. But after a while of using the extension its location becomes natural. Also not all extensions deploy accross the entire suite, so read the information about the extension prior to your download to be sure that the software will suit your needs.
Add an extension and enjoy!
